• Suitable links on reality television

Here are a few links I found on Google Video!

The first clip is the best bits of Big Brother 5! How come if they can put the best bits from the show into a 5 minute clip do we have to be submitted to it for 3 months? Are they admitting its rubbish and only 5 minutes is anything worth watching? Hee Hee

The second clip is the advert for Chantelle's TV show. She got the deal for it immediately after coming out of the house and its called "living the dream" - need I say anymore!!

And finally the last clip is Chantelle on Loose Women talking about being the first non celebrity to win celebrity Big brother and her new show... and Kay Adams kindly points out that since coming out of the house she's "all over" - I'm sure she means it in a nice way!!

  • Reality or Virtual - Who knows?

The real world and the virtual world - is it just me or is it not possible to separate the two anymore?

What once seemed like a 'real world' is now a world which revolves around celebrities and our need to be just like them. But for the vast majority of us all we will never look like, live like or be at all like a celebrity!!
The media are however taking advantage of the powerful position they hold when it comes to this!
When I turn on the television I can't get away from reality programmes...Big Brother, Strictly come dancing, Wife swap, The Farm, Back to reality, Bad lads army, Love Island, X factor and the list goes on (and on and on)!! I don’t suppose it’s just me that is sick to the back teeth of all these programmes? I've had enough of being fed garbage and being told that watching people sit in a house for three months is entertainment!!! But their not short of volunteers to be contestants either - well why would they be, with large pots of money or even their chance at fame, even if it is just 15 minutes. And whilst the volunteers are there so will the shows :(
The television is there to entertain me surely - but all its doing is broadcasting programmes of the real world through the virtual world!!!

Is the world so bored that we need to be submitted to reality television because its fresh faces regularly? Or is it? Think back to Celebrity Big brother (which is a joke in itself because the winner wasn’t even a celebrity, just a nobody pretending to be – and the other celebrities aren’t exactly celebrities!) - Does Chantelle Houghton remind you of anymore? Paris Hilton maybes!!! Not only are they submitting millions of viewers to this show they are now using contestants that are parodies of existing celebrities!!!

Going back to those contestants and their 15 minutes of fame there is a lot of them to remember but some do stick in your head or even stick around for a bit longer. Drum Roll…..Jade Goody!! She’s done alright for herself, after her humiliating acts and “Jadisms” in the BB house! Now worth £4.9 million, owns her own business and has had a few of her own television shows. So now might be the perfect time to mention her new show: Jade’s PA! A search through the nation holding auditions to eliminate and find the right PA for Miss Goody! Okay so let me get this right, a reality TV star is holding her own reality show to find a reality PA…. I think this answers my question – there is no divide left between reality and the virtual world!

It's not just television we see this in either it’s present in magazines as well! Hello, Ok!, Heat, Now and all the others feed us images and info of celebrities constantly. How they are dressing this week, who they are dating now and any other gossip they can get their hands on! Articles fill the pages showing us step by step how to put make-up on like Posh and do our hair like Colleen!! Another good point that springs to mind here shows an excellent mix of the real world with the virtual world - and you couldn’t get more virtual than computer animated! Its Computer game star and film star Lara Croft - How can men find a computer animated character attractive? I don't get it but they do - so what did the film industry do - bring her to life in the form of sexy actress Angelina Jolie!!

Lara Croft - VirtualLara Croft - Real

However the film industry is also aware of the real world coming together with the virtual world and they have been warning us of it since 1982 in the film “Videodrome”. The film brings together the real and the virtual within one mans life showing, or perhaps stressing, the consequences that this merge could bring! Baring in mind here that this film was produced twenty-four years ago and they found it appropriate then to show audiences of ‘what the world was coming to’ so to speak lets be honest nothing has changed so by now it’s most probably uncontrollable.

So I think its pretty obvious that the ‘real world’ and the ‘virtual world’ today are so closely connected or even merged that there is no way to find the line that separates them!
